Gareth's Place
If you are here by
choice
then it's probably because you know me, Gareth D. Williams, I am a telecommunications/electronics instructor at BCIT (British Columbia Institute of
Technology). I live in Vancouver's West End (downtown)
- a busy but very pleasant neighbourhood.
garethdwilliams@yahoo.com
and perhaps you want to know a little more about me. Welcome
to my web page.
Prior to my teaching position at BCIT, I taught in the Electronics Department at VCC
(Vancouver
Community College) for nineteen years. That ended unexpectedly in 2008
when
VCC
went under dramatic changes which included the elimination
of technology programs.
During my time teaching at VCC I became involved in
administration
and curriculum
development (I wrote several workbooks which were
sold in the campus bookstore).
While at VCC I appeared on several episodes
of the TV shows
The Shopping Bags
(on the W Network)
and Get Connected (David Chalk's computer information
show).
My position at BCIT began in the Electronics Technician Common Core Program in January 2011,
teaching at the Burnaby Campus. In 2014 I started developing the electronics curriculum for the
Aviation Maintenance Technician Program (AMT - Avionics) at BCIT's Aerospace Technology Campus.
Upon completion, in 2017, I returned to the Burnaby Campus to teach in the Telecommunications
Systems Technician Program, now Digital Communications and Wireless Technologies.
My seventh-floor apartment has an awesome view of Stanley Park and the North Shore
mountains.
I moved here in 1984, having lived in Calgary for sixteen years.
My early childhood was spent in South Africa, Aberystwyth Wales and Oxford England.
My hobbies include electronics, computer technology and writing. My music taste is very
eclectic,
including traditional and modern classical music, opera and musicals.
I enjoy
live theatre, piano playing, darts, cartoons, beer, wine and ..... roller coasters.
My mother passed away in 2009 (80 years old) and my father passed away in 2015
(88 years old).
My sister, Donelle, moved to Maui many moons ago after
qualifying as a medical doctor.
Her husband, Dennis, has passed away. Donelle retired in 2019 and continues to live
in Maui.
Their daughter, Bethany, graduated from
UBC and BCIT (Business Admin). She lives in Vancouver.
I am fortunate to have been with my husband, Jack, for over thirty-eight years.
He retired from the Richmond
School Board in January 2023.
We have a lot in common, but we also have enough differences
to keep us together.
I always respond to emails and messages, so feel free to drop me a line.
